Heating season starts in Vilnius

The heating season starts in Vilnius on Monday. The heat will reach all residents in the next few days, the Vilnius Municipality has said.

In October, a kilowatt-hour of heat will cost 8.02 cents, a price that is expected to remain similar throughout the whole season, thanks to the stable situation in the energy market, according to Adomas Bužinskas, director of the municipality’s administration.

“Recently, we have seen more stable prices of energy resources on the markets, which determine most of the heating price. This allows us to predict that Vilnius residents’ heating bills will not increase,” he said in a statement.

According to the municipality, 65 percent of the city’s heat needs would be supplied by independent heat producers, 13 percent by biofuel plants of Vilnius Heat Networks, and 22 percent by natural gas plants.

Other major Lithuanian cities started the heating season last week.
